Apparently a recent study of American women shows that 18 percent of women (nearly 1 in 5!) now end their childbearing years without biological children, compared to 10 percent in 1976. And for an increasing number of these women – childlessness is a choice.

But what I found really interesting was people’s opinions about childlessness… In 2007 29% of people thought childlessness was bad for society – but by 2009 this had jumped (increased) to 38%!

For more detailed statistics click here

I found this really surprising. So, I’m curious, who and where are these nearly 40% of people who think childlessness is bad for society?

My initial thoughts are that if everyone decided not to have children, that might be bad for society, but if less people choose not to have children this could be GOOD for society. It’s good for the environment (eg. less food, resources and other products required and less driving around). AND it may be good for the kids that ARE being raised – people who don’t have kids of their own are someone else for a child to go to – who may have more time for them than someone who already has children of their own. I’m thinking doting aunts, uncles and friends here.

But more importantly, what do you think?

Mostly 20 minute informative talks on a huge range of subjects from many inspiring people of today.

So, I found this recently by Eve Ensler - Embrace Your Inner Girl. It’s a great fit with what I would love to achieve with RebelWomen: Strong, powerful, sensitive women – who aren’t afraid to base decisions and their lives on intuition and feelings and take this energy into the world!

I think we need more feminine energy in government, corporations, society, the world. We need more compassion, more long-term/far-sighted thinking and more seeing options and shades of grey. Both men AND women have been taught that our feelings and compassion are weak, whereas it’s precisely these qualities that empower us to be PASSIONATE, STRONG and SUCCESSFUL…

So, watch this TED talk by Eve Ensler – famous for her Vagina Monologues Embrace Your Inner Girl and let us know what you think by leaving a comment below!

PS. I wonder what Ms Ensler would think of the “Muff Maintenance Products” I posted about recently…

I’ve just finished reading Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D.H. Lawrence. It was first published in 1928, banned and not published again until the late 1950s – even then causing a stir because of it’s sexual content. Mr Lawrence was quite the rebel…

So firstly, YES, there is enough sex to make a Harlequin romance look tame.

And I have to confess that I actually found the book quite hard to read (many long paragraphs and some rather boring expositions/discussions in the early part). But I stuck it out – and I’m very glad I did!

The sexual liaisons are written in a very philosophical yet animalistic/natural way… It felt very real, not overly dramatised or romanticised. In the book there seemed to be some big themes around:

Being in touch with nature/the environment ’v’ industrialisation

How intellect and education separates us from ourselves and our true nature

Money and the outdated class system in Britain at the time

How men and women are expected to be - why can’t a man be tender and still manly? (Sounds good to me!)

And of course the ‘intellectualisation’ and disassociation of the sexual act…

Overall, themes of power - sex, love, education, money and class. But what I found most interesting was how relevant these themes still are today. I was surprised that even in the 1920s people of all classes were focused on money (spending what they have or wanting more) and seeking pleasure instead of LIVING meaningful lives and being in touch with their bodies, each other and their real selves/nature.

Overall I found the book unexpectedly spiritual and still very relevant. Anyone else?
